International Religious Freedom Report, released on Monday 20th May 2013 and produced by the U.S. Department of State found that discrimination, harrassment and repression continued to rise against Muslims around the world.
Shia Muslims and Ahmadis were particulary targeted even within countries with Muslim majorities. Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Pakistan, Indonesia (East Java).
The report which surveyed the 2012 events worldwide, noted that in Tunisia, Salafists attacked targets they deemed “un-Islamic,” such as a Russian Orthodox Church, synagogues, dozens of Sufi shrines, and Celebrations or gatherings they “associated with Shia Islam”.
